First of all, when I came to write a review I was asked the following four questions."How much fun is this toy? (2 stars) How would you rate this toy's educational value? (1 star) How durabe is this toy? (2 stars) How do you rate this toy overall? (4 stars)"Huh. Didn't really think of this as a toy. To my mind it was a collectable only. Imagining it being used as a toy amuses me. Anyway, since there is no educational intent for this item, I rated that part low, but I don't hate it.Anyway, the item is a cheap plastic replica with a tie-pin style backing. I use the word "cheap" meaning less expensive than metal, not meaning something derogatory like "crap." The material is molded, colored plastic. The surface is unpainted. Also important if you expect to get something showing the dark details the picture seems to indicate. Anyone with experience in painting miniatures can likely give it that real, aged metal look - but it comes in a uniform color.A real pin of this design would have the point on the bottom as the pin that goes through clothing and the hand and ring sort of clip the material - like the show demonstrates. This does not because it's a surface-detail replica - as opposed to a functional replica.Mine came out of the box perfectly straight, but I could tell the material is pliable, so it could bend and in reading other reviews apparently some have. I also presume it could snap off if bent enough.I gave it 4 stars overall because I like it and it's almost exactly what I really want - which is a replica to display demonstrating my fandom for the show. If I wanted something durable to wear to a Ren Fest, I seriously doubt I would have gotten it for the price I paid or manufactured by HBO/Dark Horse comics.Its nice being hand of the king now. It has been a long journey to reach this point but I am finally ready to defend the king and perhaps take kingly duties when someone inevitably takes a chance at gaining access to the throne. I am hoping to see more of that beautiful every changing facial expression face of Cersei Lannister. She looks almost like she is sad, happy, conniving, and perturbed all with one face. Also I hope the Mother of Dragons is ready for her knew Drogo ripped delicious piece of man-meat know as muah. Much like Podrick I am all about pleasing the ladies of the Thrones.The pendant is pretty cool. It feel and looks like it will break at any second but so far so good. I have gotten complements on the broach ;) form people who have never seen or read Game of Thrones so that is a plus.I will say for this China made pin it does seem to be priced a little two high. I think at two dollars it would be more fair and I would by several. But at 6 and change it just seems like someone is making quite a large margin on this thing. And when it does break I will not be buying another.4 Stars!Great pin. It is a reasonable size, and the quality is definitely there. TO clarify on other reviews about this item, the 'pin' I think people complain about is the actual pin on the back that inserts into the 'locking mechanism', and not the larger 'blade' portion of the item. Maybe I was the only one confused when people continually said that the pin bent easily.Anyways, it has a standard pin-and-twist lock back, and the pin itself does have problems sometimes dropping into the slot where it locks in. Is it a little annoying? Well, yeah. But not enough to not give it 4 stars. If I was taking it off and pinning it back on every day, I'd like to think that it would become easier, but likely not. Overall the entire pin is weighty and substantial, and except for the slight difficulty of the latching, It's a great piece for the price. I had expected ugly cast lines, or maybe a poorly cleaned edge, but mine came looking great. Definitely recommend it.My brother loved this item! One of the little items for birthday. Crazy about GOT...he’s 63 yrs old and now wearing it every place he goes. LOL!The workmanship is nice. The quality of the actual pin is questionable. The back stick was bent from the way it was packaged (the foam isn't deep enough). I was able to easily straighten the pin which leads me to believe that, if worn alot, the pin may break off.I don't plan on wearing it around everyday, so I think it is still a great keepsake. I bought one as a gift and will still give it, just with a caveat about not being to hard on the stickpin. A better attachment would make it a 10.It was pretty small, about the size of a lapel pin/brooch, but that was probably my fault for not reading the description clearly -- I was imagining something hand-sized (no pun intended), true to the size on the show, but for the cheap price I am not surprised it's a mini-HotK pin. I think GoT-obsessed friend still appreciated it regardless :) And the detail on it was pretty nice, it didn't necessarily LOOK cheap, so it was worth the $5 to me.The Hand of the King Pin is quite an interesting item to hold in your hands. The detail is very nice, but only one little issue - the pin part is a little small for my taste. Mind you I am not saying it is a little tiny thing, but for the largeness of the pin, it is smaller than it should be. The pin is around 2.5 - 3 inches long, but the pin itself is only a centimeter in length. Do not get me wrong, I still love the pin, and I would give it 4 out of 5 stars.Bought this for my boyfriend as a Xmas present and he loves it. He wore it on his coat for the remainder of winter and now wears it on the strap of a messenger bag. Never had problems with it coming unclasped nor has there been any issues with the blade bending. I imagine if you are rough or careless with it, it will, but with novelty items like this it's obvious that you should take extra care. Great details on it and while it is smaller than the size of the one seen on the show, it is still a nice size and a good addition to and GOT/ASOIAF fans.As a massive GOT fan I always wanted a pin like this to put on my denim jacket. Physically, it does look good and when pinned it is eye catching - however, I just wish it was a bit better quality and there was a bit more weight to it. Will definitely use it as much as I can.Naturally I looked through the reviews before purchasing and was worried about the size, colour, material, quality and all the other things people were commenting on, but I found that this is a brilliant product. Being a huge GOT fan I was very impressed, it feels and looks great. Obviously it is not a exact replica of the one in show but the shape is fine, looks awesome and nice quality. I think maybe people were expecting it to be the very replica so naturally were disappointed. People should rate a product based on the product description and not what they had imagined in their heads. So based on that, I would say absolutely 5 stars and I couldn't be happier.Veey poorly made - looks more like skeleton fingers than a human hand. Pin clasp on the back is even worse - so loose that it opens while wearing and falls off. Got a better one on wish for less than £1!Small but niceOverall, it's not great to use properly as it'll fall off. The quality is ok to poor and sadly, it's not much like what's in the series. Having compared this to the actual badge Ned/Tywin wear, they're not much alike but that's my fault for not checking. If you just want a little memento as a laugh I guess it's a must buy.
